Natural Product Chemist/Engineer at Generare : hands-on extraction, purification, and LC-MS to turn microbial chemistry into novel bioactive molecules at scale.

ABOUT GENERARE

At Generare, we’re reopening one of humanity’s most powerful sources of innovation: the natural evolved chemistry of microbes. We’ve built a discovery engine that blends synthetic biology, computational biology, and automation to explore the vast 97% of microbial natural products that remain undiscovered, and to turn that hidden diversity into a rapidly growing library of truly novel bioactive molecules. The platform is already running at industrial scale, revealing new scaffolds and modes of action faster than any other approach, and unlocking fresh routes to tackle antimicrobial resistance, cancer, parasitic diseases, and major agricultural needs.

Generare was created in 2023 from the landmark work of Dr. Vincent Libis and is scaling fast. We are 30 passionated people in the heart of Paris today, growing rapidly next year, and building the team that will bring nature’s molecular library to the next wave of medicines and sustainable crop protection.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a rigorous and motivated Natural Product Chemist / Engineer with a strong "hands-on" mindset.

In this role, you will be the go-to person for executing the extraction, purification, and LC-MS analysis of novel molecules. You will actively run the samples, maintain the analytical platform, and ensure that our discovery pipeline turns genetic data into purified chemical compounds efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extraction & Purification : Perform routine and advanced extraction protocols from biological matrices (bacterial cultures/biomass) and purify target molecules using Flash and preparative HPLC

  • LC-MS Operation : Run routine analytical, preparative, and High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) sequences

  • Data Processing : Analyze and interpret MS data using standard software tools to profile and identify compounds (strong daily requirement)

  • System Caretaking : Help maintain the LC-MS systems, performing routine calibrations, solvent changes, and first-line troubleshooting to keep the platform running smoothly

  • Bioprocess Assist (Plus) : Help the team launch and monitor bacterial fermentations when needed to support the production workflow

Your Profile

  • Education: Master’s degree, Engineering degree, or a recently completed PhD in Natural Product Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or equivalent

  • Experience: 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience (including internships, routine industry work, or applied doctoral research).

Technical Skills

  • Good practical knowledge of LC-MS systems (from sample prep to analytical/HRMS injection)

  • Familiarity with standard MS data analysis tools

  • Hands-on experience in compound isolation (chromatography)

  • Bonus Skills : Experience with, or willingness to learn, bacterial fermentation setups and NMR characterization

  • Mindset: You enjoy being at the bench, you are rigorous with data, and you have a strong "get-things-done", production-driven attitude

  • Proficiency in Python is a real plus

Série A
