Hi there! 👋

🐼 About us

WeWard is the app that rewards you for walking and turns everyday steps into real-life rewards, connections, & positive impact!

Our mission is to help people move more, feel better, and make movement meaningful.

Today, we are trusted by 25M+ users worldwide, with a fast-growing, international team and offices in Paris and New York.

Our ambition is to build the world’s leading movement-and-rewards platform, scaling globally while using technology, data, and smart incentives to drive lasting behavior change and wellbeing at scale.

🎯 About the role

Reporting directly to Ivan, you'll work as a Senior Backend Engineer on the pillar that makes WeWard's rewards real, sustainable, and trustworthy.

WeWard rewards walking — the Monetization & Reward Pillar is the engine behind those rewards. We turn user engagement into revenue through partners, affiliation and advertising, and we redistribute that value straight back to users as Wards. Every euro we earn partly returns to the people who walk — which means the integrity of our revenue and reward streams is tied directly to our P&L and to user trust.

You'll face the challenge of operating a large-scale international consumer app handling billions of interactions and strong peaks of activity every day — a domain where a missed order is lost revenue and a fraudulent one is direct loss.

The Monetization & Reward Pillar works on 3 core ambitions:

  • Sustainable revenue — grow the monetization engine (affiliation, partnerships, ads) that funds the entire reward economy.

  • A rewarding experience — make earning and spending Wards feel effortless, generous, and worth coming back for.

  • Integrity & trust — protect the order, commission, and reward streams end-to-end, because every euro flows back to a real user.

Your impact/responsabilities

As a Senior Backend Engineer inside the Monetization & Reward Pillar, you will:

Ship and own

  • Build and own the backend services powering affiliation, partner integrations and the Wards reward economy

  • Design resilient integrations with multiple third-party affiliation and partner platforms — each with its own API shape — so adding a new one tomorrow is a small, contained change

  • Own the order & commission pipeline end-to-end — ingestion, attribution, redistribution to users — where correctness maps directly to our P&L

Drive technical excellence

  • Build AI-assisted automation to detect anomalies and fraud in the order/commission stream and keep the reward economy clean

  • Contribute to pillar-level architecture with the CTO and Engineering Manager

  • Instrument everything — structured logging, metrics, and alerting — so we always know the pipeline is healthy and we're not losing money

  • Spot fragile areas, debt, and data-integrity risks early, and reduce long-term debt without derailing the roadmap

Our backend is primarily Python — but if you've mastered another backend language (Go, Rust, or anything else), that's totally OK! We pick the right tool for the job. This role also comes with a strong AI-automation scope — using AI tooling to build, and to power our monitoring and anomaly detection, is on-mission here, not a nice-to-have.

  • You have 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer, with strong proficiency in Python (or a comparable backend language such as Go or Rust) and hands-on experience shipping production services at scale

  • You've designed and operated third-party API integrations and data pipelines where correctness and reliability genuinely matter

  • You're able to understand and debug large, complex codebases — and you enjoy it

  • You can leverage AI and are eager to grow your skills with it — this role has a real AI-automation scope

  • You care about observability — logging, metrics, alerting — and about building systems you can trust on call

  • You love combining continuous improvement and agility, always bringing new ideas to the table. At WeWard, our spirit is Test & Learn — we trust you to experiment (we deploy to production more than ten times a week!)

  • You have a natural interest in the startup world and want to make a tangible impact in your next adventure

  • You're motivated by working close to the business — revenue, rewards, and the trust users place in us
